OTI REGION – A 35-year-old yam farmer, Kwabena Badam, has been arrested for allegedly shooting and killing a suspected yam thief on his farm at Abongo No. 1 in the Oti Region.
According to police reports, Badam had been keeping watch over his farm at night due to repeated cases of yam theft.
On Saturday around midnight, he sighted a suspect attempting to steal yams on the farm and allegedly shot him, resulting in the suspect’s death.
After the incident, Badam voluntarily surrendered himself to the police in Dambai to assist with investigations.
Authorities have commenced investigations into the incident to establish the full circumstances surrounding the shooting.
The body of the deceased has been deposited at a morgue pending autopsy and identification.
