WA – A 42-year-old self-styled Imam, Ilyasu Konate, has been sentenced to 10 years imprisonment with hard labour for defiling a 7-year-old boy in Wa.
The court heard that Konate exploited his status as a trusted neighbor to gain access to the victim, who lived next door.
According to prosecution, on the day of the incident, Konate offered some children, including his own stepdaughter, a ride on his motorbike and drove them to a secluded area where he allegedly sexually assaulted the boy.
After trial, the court found him guilty and handed down the 10-year custodial sentence with hard labour.
The case has sparked renewed concerns about child safety and the need for stronger community safeguarding measures.
