TWIFO HEMANG LOWER DENKYIRA, C/R – [July 21st 2026]
Residents of Twifo Bukuruso* in the Twifo Hemang Lower Denkyira District are calling on government and relevant authorities to urgently intervene over the alleged obstruction of a natural drainage channel.
According to the community, a former Assembly Member, Mr. Michael Asare, has allegedly filled portions of a stream channel with gravel and sand for a private building project.
The residents say the channel serves as the main outlet for rainwater in the area. They have for years experienced severe flooding during heavy rains and had been seeking a permanent solution.
“We later saw tipper trucks dumping gravel and sand into the drainage channel. We were told the project belongs to the former Assembly Member,” some residents said.
They fear that if the construction continues and the channel remains blocked, the next downpour could cause devastating floods that will endanger lives and destroy property.
The community is therefore appealing to the Government, Member of Parliament, District Chief Executive, and other relevant agencies to take immediate action.
ASSEMBLY MEMBER SPEAKS
The Assembly Member for the area, Hon. Daniel Fosu, confirmed he has reported the matter to the appropriate authorities and traditional leaders.
However, he said no action has been taken so far and is appealing for an urgent investigation.
“We need the authorities to step in now before we record any disaster,” Hon. Fosu stated.
Residents say they will continue to push until the drainage channel is cleared to protect the community.
