The Ministry of the Interior has suspended the operating licence of Kantanka Security Services Limited with immediate effect following a violent shooting incident in the Kwabenya area of Accra on Sunday, June 21, 2026.
The directive, signed by the Minister for the Interior, Mohammed Muntaka Mubarak, was issued on Monday, June 22, ordering the company to cease all operational activities pending the outcome of a full police investigation.
Preliminary Investigations Reveal Regulatory Breaches
According to a statement from the Ministry, preliminary investigations uncovered what authorities described as serious violations of the Police Service (Private Security Organisations) Regulations, 1992 (L.I. 1571).
Personnel allegedly deployed at the scene of the incident were found wearing unapproved uniforms, carrying unauthorized firearms and ammunition, and using security accoutrements not sanctioned under existing regulations.
The Ministry noted that such conduct poses significant risks to public safety and undermines the regulatory framework governing private security operations in the country.
“The usage of unprescribed uniforms, unauthorised possession and use of firearms and ammunition constitutes a serious breach with significant implications for public safety and security,” the statement said.
Firm Ordered to Halt Operations
As part of the suspension, Kantanka Security Services Limited has been directed to immediately shut down all operations until further notice.
The Ministry has also advised businesses, institutions, and members of the public to refrain from engaging the services of the company while investigations are ongoing.
Management of the firm has been instructed to cooperate fully with the Ghana Police Service, including providing all relevant information required to facilitate a comprehensive probe into the incident.
Government Warns Private Security Companies
The Interior Ministry stressed that the suspension is an administrative measure intended to preserve public order and ensure accountability within the private security industry.
Authorities further reminded all private security organisations operating in Ghana to comply strictly with national regulations, particularly directives on approved uniforms and operational standards issued earlier this year.
The Ministry urged members of the public to remain vigilant and promptly report suspicious or unlawful activities involving private security personnel to the nearest police station.
