At approximately 1:00 a.m. on Monday, 15 June 2026, students of Bawku Senior High School inflicted significant damage and destroyed school property.
In an interview with bSMART MEDIA UPPER EAST, the Ghana Education Service (GES) Director for the Bawku Municipality, Mr. Isaac Abweko Azasoo, revealed that some final-year students, who are scheduled to complete their examinations by Friday, took matters into their own hands after the school administration and staff refused to permit examination malpractice.
According to the Director, the situation escalated into disturbances during which one teacher was allegedly kidnapped by the students, and another teacher was assaulted and subsequently transported to the hospital. The injured teacher has since been referred to Bolgatanga for additional medical treatment.
The Director further mentioned that security personnel were dispatched to the school to restore order and prevent any further escalation of the situation.
Despite the incident, the school will not be closed, and academic activities are expected to continue with enhanced security measures in place.
