The District Chief Executive for Central Tongu, Hon. Addison Dodzi Mornyuie, today appeared before the Public Accounts Committee (PAC) to provide updates on the status of development projects across the district.
According to the DCE, several projects have been successfully completed, including the construction of a 6-seater WC facility at Kutime, a 4-seater KVIP at Adidome Eziewa, a 6-seater WC facility at Adidome Zongu and kpedzeglo, and a 3-unit classroom block at Bakpa Toje
Hon. Mornyuie also disclosed that some contracts had to be terminated after repeated efforts by the Assembly to engage contractors who failed to return to site despite invitations and directives. Management subsequently decided to terminate those contracts and repackage them for fresh awards.
He further indicated that some previously abandoned projects have now been revived. The classroom block project at Avakpedome, which stalled at floor level in 2017, has resumed and is currently at the roofing stage. Similarly, the two-unit classroom block at Kutsime, which remained at foundation level since 2022, is also progressing steadily and has reached the roofing stage.
Addressing concerns on project prioritization, the DCE explained that the Assembly considered the urgent needs of communities before making decisions. He cited the Avakpedome classroom project, where pupils had been studying under a dilapidated structure, as a key example that required immediate intervention.
The Public Accounts Committee noted that although photographs of completed projects had been presented, further verification exercises would be conducted to confirm their status.
