A soldier has died during a counter-terròrism training exercise in the Upper East Region after an explosion at Binduri.
The incident occurred on May 20 during “Exercise Storm Shield,” a 10-day military operation held across Bawku, Pusiga and Binduri.
The Ghana Armed Forces say the deceased, Private Adotey of the 6 Infantry Battalion, was a Physical Training Instructor. He reportedly died while trying to rescue fellow soldiers at the scene.
The exercise, aimed at improving troops’ readiness against terrorism and violent extremism, has since been concluded.
The closing ceremony was held at the 11 Mechanised Battalion in Bazua and was addressed by the Chief of Army Staff, Major General Lawrence Kwaku Gbetanu.
Officials say the drill formed part of ongoing efforts to strengthen national security and improve response to emerging threats.
