A tense exchange erupted during a Public Accounts Committee (PAC) meeting when MP Sam George and former Deputy Finance Minister Abena Osei-Asare locked horns over Ghana’s poor mobile network service and delays in resolving the issue.
The disagreement began when Osei-Asare raised a question about the quality of mobile networks during and after the tenure of Dr. Bawumia’s vice presidency.
Sam George responded by explaining that instead of the usual annual rollout of 200 new sites by telcos, both MTN and Telecel are currently rolling out a total of 1,200 new sites this year.
He noted that this includes new 5G and upgraded 4G sites, which will naturally take time to be fully installed.
However, before George could finish his answer, Osei-Asare repeatedly interjected, attempting to counter his response.
Frustrated by the interruptions, however, before he could complete his explanation, Abena Osei-Asare repeatedly interrupted, leading to a heated exchange between the two lawmakers.
Sam George then responded by reminding her that he is also a Member of Parliament and deserved the opportunity to speak after being asked a question.
“You are being unruly, Abena. I am also an MP. Let me speak,” George was heard saying.
Osei-Asare eventually backed down, and the committee continued its business.
