The Eastern Regional Police Command has arrested three suspects following an intelligence-led operation that led to the seizure of 1,600 parcels of suspected Indian hemp and the interception of an attempted GH¢100,000 bribe.
On May 10, 2026, officers from the Regional Police Intelligence Department (RPID) acted on a tip-off concerning narcotics allegedly being stored at Akosombo-Blornya . During surveillance operations near Krobo Girls Senior High School, police intercepted a Hyundai Rhino truck with registration number GR 5724-15 and tracked it to a secluded area near Atua Government Hospital.
The police moved in while suspects were transferring sacks from the Hyundai truck into a Howo Zonda Tipper Truck with registration number GN 7948-21. The suspects initially fled into the bush, but officers successfully secured both vehicles together with the suspected narcotics.
Shortly after the operation, a 39-year-old welder and resident of Atua, identified as Solomon Tettey, approached the police and claimed ownership of the vehicles and the consignment, which he alleged was destined for Nigeria.
In an attempt to obstruct the investigation, Solomon Tettey offered officers a bribe of GH¢100,000. Acting professionally, the officers pretended to accept the offer in order to secure evidence. The suspect subsequently transferred GH¢90,000 via Mobile Money and handed over an additional GH¢10,000 in cash.
Following the transaction, officers from the Regional Counter-Terrorism Unit (CTU), together with personnel from the Odumase Police Command, moved in and arrested Solomon Tettey. Two other suspects, Joshua Nartey and Teye Nartey, were later apprehended after reporting to the Regional Police Headquarters.
The suspects, together with all exhibits retrieved during the operation, have since been handed over to the Regional Criminal Investigation Department (RCID) for further investigations and necessary legal action.
The Ghana Police Service has reaffirmed its commitment to professionalism, integrity, and the relentless fight against drug trafficking and related criminal activities within the region.
