Road Minister Kwame Governs Agbodza has finally responded to public criticism over the size of his ministerial convoy after observers began counting and posting about the number of vehicles in his entourage.

According to the Minister, his standard convoy consists of just 7 cars, himself, his Deputy and other officials. However he explained that the numbers grow significantly once they arrive in any region.

“Once we get to a region, the same numbers we have is replicated, the regional minister, the MP, the DCE, so almost all the time the possibility of ten other cars meeting you wherever you go, making it 17” he explained.

The Minister was emphatic that his team operates efficiently and does not maintain an unnecessarily large fleet. “We are not extravagant and we don’t have a fleet of cars driving around”, Minister Agbodza stated.

The clarification comes amid growing public debate about the size and cost of ministerial convoys in Ghana and whether they represent value for money for Ghanaian taxpayers.
