Durban: A group of Zulu women reportedly staged a protest this week, calling on government to protect their immigrant husbands and fast-track citizenship applications.
The women say foreign-born spouses face harassment, delays in ID processing, and threats of deportation despite being married to South African citizens. They’re urging Home Affairs to uphold constitutional rights to family unity and due process.
Home Affairs has acknowledged backlogs in spousal visas and ID issuance, citing system upgrades and verification processes. The department has not yet issued a formal response to this protest.
No SAPS incident report has been released as of May 2026
