A disturbing case of relationship violence has surfaced in Ghana’s Central Region, where a self-styled prophet has been arrested for allegedly setting his ex-girlfriend’s house ablaze following a breakup.
The suspect, identified as Mark Dzimah, was picked up by police in the Assin South District after he was accused of carrying out the act at Abura Kwaduagya.
According to reports, the incident occurred shortly after his former partner, Joyce Akomaning, ended their relationship.
Joyce claims she decided to break up with the suspect due to persistent abuse. However, the decision allegedly triggered a violent reaction, culminating in the destruction of her home. She believes the fire was a deliberate act of revenge.
The blaze reportedly razed her single-room residence, leaving her and her two children homeless. Several valuable items were destroyed in the fire, including sewing machines she relied on for her livelihood, household belongings, cash, and important documents.
The victim is currently displaced and depending on the support of friends and sympathizers as she struggles to recover from the loss.
Police have since confirmed the arrest of the suspect and indicated that investigations are ongoing. Despite the allegations, the accused has denied any involvement in the incident. He is expected to be arraigned before court in the coming days.
This incident adds to growing concerns about domestic-related violence escalating into dangerous and destructive acts. It also highlights the urgent need for stronger interventions and support systems for victims of abusive relationships.
