The people we often forget in the hospital; The People (the relatives and friends) who stay behind to care for patients.
The patient carries their own burdens, healthcare workers are struggling, but you see those who stand by you in your worst moments; family and friends, neighbors and acquaintances, and even work colleagues.
Sometimes, the patient at least has a bed to lie on, but these people?
They spread cloth on the bare floor. No proper place to sleep. No protection from mosquitoes, insects, cold, or even safety risks.
You’ll find them at the OPD, in corridors, in front of wards, just trying to stay close.
Some even have to fight with healthcare workers for you.
Some don’t sleep properly for days.
Some don’t eat well, stay away from work, or move to and from work.
Some silently fall sick too.
And then there are others who may not sleep at the hospital, but they show up every day, bringing food, hot water, support, running from pharmacy to pharmacy with your prescription, prayers… doing everything they can.
If you’ve ever had someone like that during your admission, whether for a few hours, 3 days, or 1 year, please appreciate them.
Because while they were/are caring for you, they are also sacrificing a part of themselves.
