I visited Fuveme in the Atiteti Electoral Area of the Anloga District with some members of REGSEC after receiving reports that the sea had broken into the Volta River and was causing serious destruction in the area. What we saw on the ground was deeply disturbing and confirms the urgent threat facing nearby communities.
I was received by the Anloga DCE, Hon. Sandra Seyram Kpedor, and her team. Residents and local leaders explained that Kporkporgbor has been cut away, while Fuveme was washed away years ago, forcing many people to relocate to Agorkedzi.
This situation requires urgent attention. I will submit a full report to H.E. President John Dramani Mahama, and I am confident that the necessary steps will be taken to address this looming crisis knowing how responsive and committed the President is to the welfare of vulnerable communities.
I also welcome the update from Mr. Pascal Agbagba, Volta Regional Director of NADMO, that officials from the national headquarters are expected in the area tomorrow to support further assessment and response. The people of Anloga are not alone.
