Educators have been urged to continuously upgrade their skills and competencies to keep up with the rapidly changing education sector.

The call was made by the Ghana International School (GIS) at the 10th edition of its TIME Educators’ Conference held under the theme “Transforming Education, One Teacher at a Time.”

This year’s conference brought together about 1,000 participants, including international presenters from diverse backgrounds, as well as 200 educators from the Ghana Education Service (GES).

Speaking on the sidelines of the workshop, Eugene Boateng, Head of Standards at GIS, said the initiative is aimed at bridging professional development gaps among teachers as teaching methods continue to evolve.

He noted that professional development is often expensive and inaccessible, especially for private and international schools, which is why GIS decided to extend the training to educators across Ghana.

> “We are doing our bit at the school to bridge the gap, that is, the lack of professional development and unavailability of teachers. Even for private and other international schools, professional development tends to be very expensive, and so we at the Ghana International School are saying, ‘Why don’t we do this for the nation, Ghana?’” Mr. Boateng said.

> “The educational landscape is quickly evolving, and if we don’t evolve as well, we may be left behind… what we are dealing with is a constantly evolving space, and the only way we can fix it is also to confidently update our knowledge,” he added.

He encouraged all educators to take advantage of such opportunities to share ideas and improve their teaching practices.
