A 24-year-old man has met his untimely death after his motorcycle collided with a pregnant cow at Okumeni, a sub-community near Kade in the Kwaebibirem Municipality of the Eastern Region.
The deceased has been identified as Silas Mintah, 24, an Okada rider. According to reports gathered by Osofoba Enoch of Holy FM/TV, Silas had visited a nearby village and was returning home around 2:00 AM when the incident occurred.
On reaching a section of the road at Okumeni, he reportedly ran into a pregnant cow that was standing in the middle of the road. The impact threw him off his motorcycle, causing severe injuries.
Some residents and passersby who found him rushed him to the Kade Government Hospital for emergency treatment, but he was pronounced dead on arrival by medical officers.
The incident has thrown the Okumeni community and the family of the deceased into a state of mourning.
Residents have since raised concerns over the practice of allowing cattle to stray onto highways, especially at night, describing it as a major threat to lives, particularly for motor riders.
They are calling on cattle owners to properly confine their animals and on authorities to enforce by-laws on stray animals to prevent similar tragic incidents in the future.
Police are expected to commence investigations into the matter, while the body of the deceased has been deposited at the Kade Government Hospital mortuary for preservation and autopsy.
