The New Patriotic Party (NPP) has accused the Ghana Gold Board (GoldBod) of being responsible for the environmental destruction being witnessed across the country.
According to the party, GoldBod is now responsible for galamsey.
“GoldBod, I can tell you now, is the cause of the environmental destruction we are seeing. They are now responsible for galamsey,” the NPP stated.
The party further questioned the source of gold being purchased by the institution, asking: “If GoldBod is not buying galamsey gold, then who is?”
The NPP is therefore challenging authorities to provide greater clarity on how gold purchased by GoldBod is sourced and verified.
