DAILY NEWSFLASH – The Bekwai Circuit Court in the Ashanti Region has sentenced a 24-year-old driver, Nana Kyei Emmanuel, to 15 years’ imprisonment for stabbing and robbing a 22-year-old woman at Esereso.

The convict was found guilty after a full trial presided over by His Honour Isaac Apietu.

Nana Kyei Emmanuel was charged with causing harm contrary to Section 69 of the Criminal Offences Act, 1960 (Act 29), and robbery contrary to Section 149 of the same Act.

According to the prosecution, led by Detective Chief Inspector Eric Okyere, the incident occurred on June 14, 2026, at about 2:00 a.m. The victim, Beatrice Achiaa Agyemang, an unemployed resident of Esereso, had gone to a nearby night pharmacy to buy medication for stomach pains.

On her way home, near the Esereso Roman Catholic Church, the convict allegedly emerged from behind a metal container armed with a knife. He stabbed the victim in the left side of her ribs and forcibly took her iPhone 11 Pro Max valued at GH¢2,600 before fleeing the scene.

The victim reported the incident to the Feyiase Police, who traced the stolen phone. The device was traced to the convict, who later answered a call made to it using another number.

Prosecutors told the court that the convict then lured the victim to Atonsu Kuwait under the pretext of returning the phone, but demanded sexual intercourse as a condition for releasing it.

Police officers accompanied the victim to the location, where the convict was arrested. A search led to the recovery of the stolen iPhone and a knife suspected to have been used in the attack.

Following his prosecution, the court convicted and sentenced him to 15 years in prison.
