The Volta Regional Minister, Hon. James Gunu, has received a delegation from Feminine Star Africa, led by Professor Kiesha Warren-Gordon of Ball State University, USA, and the NGO’s Coordinator, Bismark Tay, CEO of Bismark Tay Leadership Solutions, on a courtesy call ahead of the 2026 Domestic Violence and Partner Abuse Forum in Ho.
The delegation briefed the Minister on the organization’s interventions aimed at empowering women and girls through educational scholarships, the provision of learning materials, vocational skills training, the construction of sanitation facilities, and advocacy against domestic violence. They also highlighted their longstanding collaboration with the Ghana Police Service’s Domestic Violence and Victim Support Unit (DOVVSU), including a capacity-building programme for DOVVSU officers in the Volta Region.
This year’s forum will convene key stakeholders, including the Attorney-General’s Department, DOVVSU, and the Department of Gender, to discuss the early signs of domestic violence, preventive measures, victim protection, and available legal remedies. In addition, Coach Stewart will lead a soccer clinic for selected schools in the Ho Municipality and donate footballs, jerseys, boots, shoes, water bottles, training bibs, and other sporting equipment to promote youth development and positive behavioural change through sports.
Professor Warren-Gordon reaffirmed her commitment to partnering with local organisations to empower women and girls and build safer communities. Describing Ghana as “home,” she expressed her passion for serving alongside communities and strengthening international collaboration. The delegation also announced plans to establish an exchange programme between Ball State University and Ho Technical University to promote academic and cultural exchange.
Hon. James Gunu commended Feminine Star Africa and its partners for their sustained commitment to promoting gender equality, protecting vulnerable persons, and investing in the development of young people in the Volta Region. He assured the delegation of the Volta Regional Co-ordinating Council’s continued support for initiatives that foster a safer, more inclusive, and resilient society.
