Egg producers in Ghana are set for relief after the Ministry of Trade, Agribusiness and Industry secured the lifting of trade restrictions on exporting eggs to Burkina Faso.
The Sector Minister, Elizabeth Ofosu-Adjare, announced this following high-level bilateral talks held on Friday, July 17, 2026.
According to the Minister, Burkina Faso also agreed to resume the importation of tomatoes from Ghana.
Burkina Faso had imposed the restrictions earlier this year over quality concerns with eggs from some exporting countries. The ban led to an egg glut in Ghana, forcing some farmers, especially in Dormaa, to sell at giveaway prices.
“The outcome of the engagement provides relief for Ghanaian poultry producers and egg exporters, particularly those in the Dormaa area,” Ofosu-Adjare stated.
As part of the agreement, both countries will set up a Joint Technical Committee to monitor trade and resolve challenges. They also agreed to work toward a Bilateral Trade Agreement to remove trade barriers and improve market access.
Ghana’s exports to Burkina Faso grew from US$573 million in 2024 to US$637 million in 2025, the Ministry disclosed.
The Ghanaian delegation included Ambassador Sem Kenneth Akibate, ministry officials, and representatives of egg exporters and the private sector.
