The Manklalo of Mepe Traditional Area, Torgbe Korsi Nego VI during the 70th Afenorto Mini Durbar made a request to the government through the District Coordinating Director (DCD), Mr. Yakubu Abukari who was present on behalf of the District Chief Executive (DCE), Hon. Victoria Amefadzi Yawa Doe.

The chief explained that Mepe is the town, that was greatly affected by the flood caused by the uncontrolled Akosombo-Kpong Dam Spillage in 2023.

Speaking to the DCD, the chief has revealed that, the town, through Mepe Development Association (MDA) has collected data on the affected victims throughout Mepe and its villages. He added that before the government begins the distribution of the compensation packages, North Tongu NADMO and the Assembly or any appropriate stakeholders on behalf of the government should hold a town hall meeting with all affected victims, chiefs, and people of Mepe to explain modalities and the processes of the distribution of the compensation.

It has been almost 3 years since the displacement of victims of a man-made flood disaster. The delayed compensation is still keeping the wounds caused by the flood alive in the emotions of love and minds of the victims. 3 years is enough to start the distribution of the compensations or to finish the resettlement plan.
