Gerishom, an elderly gentleman from Western Kenya, appeared alongside his wife, Peris, on the Golden Marriage show, where the couple candidly discussed the challenges and triumphs that have characterized their union over the years.
During this emotional interview, Gerishom openly shared a deeply personal struggle that had impacted their marriage. As he aged, he found himself unable to fully meet his wife’s intimate needs. Gerishom realized that his wife was still relatively young and could naturally have desires that he was no longer capable of fulfilling. Instead of ignoring this reality or pretending everything was fine, he decided to address it openly.
“I told my wife that God has given us many things except one—decision-making. That is something every individual must do for themselves, though they should be guided,” he stated.
The elderly gentleman recounted moments when he would witness his wife seeking affection and companionship, fully aware that he could not respond in the manner she desired.
“I would pretend to be deeply asleep, yet I knew she needed me. It was painful because I understood her situation, but I was unable to help,” he explained.
Confronted with this challenging reality, Gerishom made a surprising proposal. He advised Peris that if she felt the need, she could seek companionship elsewhere rather than suffer in silence.
However, he imposed one condition on this unusual permission. “I told her she could look for a man—or even men—but not here in Kakamega. Our children live here, and I did not want anything that could embarrass the family,” he revealed.
His remarks left many viewers astonished, with some commending his honesty and understanding, while others questioned whether such an arrangement could truly strengthen a marriage.
