A 17-year-old final-year student from Mfantsipim Senior High School in Cape Coast has tragically died by suicide, as confirmed by the Central Regional Police Command.
The deceased, identified as Emmanuel Arthur, was discovered in an unfinished building located in Ola North, a suburb of Cape Coast, following a report from a carpenter working at the site.
According to a police statement, officers responded to the report on June 11, 2026, and located the student’s remains.
A search of the area resulted in the discovery of a black backpack containing examination materials, including a Geography Paper 1 mock examination paper with the name Emmanuel Arthur. Investigators also found two mobile phones, an Android and a smaller basic phone, along with other personal items.
Authorities at Mfantsipim Senior High School subsequently confirmed the identity of the deceased as a final-year student of the institution.
The student’s parents were notified of the incident, and the body was released to the family after a pathologist at the Cape Coast Teaching Hospital confirmed its advanced state of decomposition.
The building where the remains were found was subsequently fumigated, and the family proceeded with burial arrangements shortly after assuming custody of the body.
The police have determined that the student died by suicide, although the circumstances leading to the incident remain unclear.
