The Asante Mampong High Court has fined 13 members of a family GH¢50,000 each for contempt of court after they allegedly defied an injunction and proceeded with an Islamic marriage ceremony involving a woman still married to businessman Alhaji Abass.
The court found the family members guilty of willfully disobeying both traditional and High Court orders that barred the marriage. Justice William Boampong ruled that each respondent must pay the fine or serve 30 days in prison pending the substantive case.
Three individuals who failed to appear for the ruling have had bench warrants issued for their arrest, while the convicted family members are reportedly in custody as they struggle to raise the fines for their release.
