A 54-year-old man was admitted to a hospital in Manaus after suffering from severe stomach pains, nausea, and constipation. He had waited two full days before seeking professional medical help, initially trying to remove the object himself. While an initial rectal exam didn’t immediately pinpoint the issue, X-rays quickly exposed the shocking culprit: a 20cm-long dumbbell lodged right where his colon meets the rectum.

Because standard surgical tweezers could not grip the heavy, smooth piece of equipment, surgeons had to pivot to a high-risk “manual extraction.” This required a doctor to carefully insert his forearm to grab and pull the object out by hand.

According to a report in the International Journal of Surgery Case Reports, medical experts confirmed the case was of a sexual nature. They noted that while retained rectal objects are rare emergency room complaints—predominantly affecting males aged 20 to 40—examiners must always be prepared for unusual items. Thankfully, after a 3-day hospital stay, the patient was safely discharged.

Medical professionals emphasize that physical exams and prompt rectal extractions are vital to prevent life-threatening internal piercings. If an emergency happens, never wait days out of embarrassment—doctors have truly seen it all.
