A 53-year-old mechanic, identified as Raymond Amponsah, has been remanded into prison custody by the Kwadaso Circuit Court for allegedly stabbing an individual during a dispute concerning a car battery.

The accused has entered a plea of not guilty to the charge of causing harm and is scheduled to reappear before the court on June 16, 2026.

According to the prosecution, the complainant, Methuselah Dadzie, is a washing bay operator and the brother of the victim, Matthew Tanokah. Both individuals reside in North Suntreso.

Police Chief Inspector David Opoku Kwabi informed the court that the incident occurred on April 27, 2026, at approximately 4:30 p.m., stemming from a misunderstanding involving a car battery.

Prosecutors allege that Amponsah stabbed Tanokah in the stomach in the presence of the complainant before fleeing the scene.

The victim reportedly sustained severe injuries and experienced significant blood loss. He was transported to Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital, where he received emergency medical treatment.

Investigators subsequently located the suspect at his hideout with the assistance of the complainant. He was arrested on April 28, 2026.

During subsequent investigations, the accused reportedly led police to the scene of the incident. However, he was unable to produce the knife allegedly used in the attack, claiming he had disposed of it following the confrontation.

The prosecution further informed the court that Amponsah admitted to stabbing the victim but claimed he acted after being slapped during the altercation. Following investigations, he was formally charged and arraigned before the court.

The case has been adjourned to June 16, 2026, for further proceedings as authorities continue to examine the circumstances surrounding the violent dispute.
