Foreign Affairs Minister Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa says Ghana’s evacuation mission from South Africa included citizens who were being held in prison.

He revealed that 26 detainees were released and flown back to Ghana after talks with the South African government.

“They had been detained for visa violations, but we appealed that they should return home with the others,” he said.

Ablakwa thanked South African President Cyril Ramaphosa and officials for cooperating with Ghana during the process.

The evacuation follows renewed xen0phobic att+cks and growing safety concerns among African migrants living in South Africa.
