A joint team of soldiers working with the National Anti-Illegal Mining Operations Secretariat (NAIMOS) has finally arrested a notorious illegal mining gang leader in a targeted security operation.
The suspect, who is believed to be a key figure behind repeated violent attacks on taskforce operatives at various galamsey sites, was nabbed during a well-coordinated sweep by the security team.
During the operation, officers reportedly recovered an unlicensed pump-action shotgun, along with several other weapons suspected to have been used in previous confrontations with anti-galamsey personnel.
The arrest has been described as a major win in the ongoing fight against illegal mining, and the suspect is currently in custody, assisting with investigations.
