KETU SOUTH – Municipal Chief Executive for Ketu South, Nicholas Kwabla Worclachie, says the Assembly is using 10% of every District Assembly Common Fund release to eliminate schools operating under trees and canopies.
Worclachie made the comment while handing over a newly completed six-unit classroom block with ancillary facilities at Klikor Akaglakope. He acknowledged that some schools in the municipality still lack proper structures, citing Hatsukope as an example where students are still housed under a canopy near his office.
“It’s a fact, it’s an undeniable fact that we still have some of the schools under the tree,” he said.
The MCE explained that the Assembly began setting aside 10% of DACF releases in each quarter of last year for the purpose, and the same formula will be applied in the 2026/2027 budget year.
“We are directed to use 10 percent of all the releases. First quarter 10 percent, second quarter 10 percent, third quarter 10 percent, and fourth quarter 10 percent. So we ended that year, and next year 2026/27 we will be doing the same formula,” Worclachie stated.
He said the initiative aligns with President John Mahama’s government and is being pursued under the leadership of MP Hon. Abla Dzifa Gomashie. According to him, all schools under trees and canopies have been documented, and efforts are underway to phase them out completely.
